BIO: TRANSPORTATION IS A ROCK AND ROLL BAND BASED OUT OF CHAPEL HILL, NC. FRONTMAN AND BASSIST, ROBERT SCRUGGS, GUITARIST, STEPHEN MURTAUGH AND DRUMMER, BEN DUNLAP FORMED THE GROUP IN 1997, AFTER MOVING TO CHAPEL HILL FROM WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS, WHERE THEY HAD PLAYED IN NUMEROUS BANDS TOGETHER. THEY PERFORMED THEIR FIRST SHOW IN THE AREA AT A DOUBLEWIDE TRAILER IN WHITE CROSS, NC, BARELY FITTING ALL THEIR EQUIPMENT INSIDE AFTER DISMANTLING THE WOODBURNING STOVE TO MAKE ROOM. FROM THAT AUSPICIOUS BEGINNING, THEY BEGAN PLAYING REGULARLY AT THE CAVE, APPEARING ON "LIVE AT THE CAVE" ON THE PEOPLE'S CHANNEL. SHOWS AT GO STUDIOS AND LOCAL 506 FOLLOWED ALONG WITH APPEARANCES ON WXDU AND WXYC, AND THEY BUILT A LOYAL FOLLOWING OUT OF THE DENIZENS OF THE CHAPEL HILL MUSIC SCENE. THEY HAVE ALSO PLAYED REPEATEDLY IN RALEIGH, WILMINGTON AND ATHENS, GA. IN THE LAST YEAR THEY HAVE OPENED FOR NEIL DIAMOND ALL STARS AT THE CAT'S CRADLE AND FOR TED LEO AND PHARMACIST AT GO STUDIOS, AND ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO CONTINUING TO BUILD A FAN BASE IN NORTH CAROLINA AND BEYOND.

"They'll pomp you like Queen and then sweetly balladize you like Badfinger." -Ross Grady / Chapel Hill Music Scene
"One of the handful of superb rock bands on Raleigh's Demonbeach Records, Transportation has a new three-song, seven-inch piece of black licorice out. These guys get their fire from 'anyone who writes great songs and plays them with alot of soulful energy'." -Chris Parker / Indy Weekly

thanks for visiting
"Transportation are somewhere in the 70s, though they're a little more like UK-art-pop centric, a la Badfinger or early Queen." - Grady / stuff to do
"Transportation is a pop trio that writes good, catchy stuff, maybe somewhere along the lines of the Lemonheads or Bob Mould. They usually pull the old switcheroo a few times during their show, which changes the sound somewhat so it's kinda like seeing an extra band or two..." -John Bell / Google Groups
REVIEWS: Transportation is a tricycle rolling on three man wheels down avenues of heartache and boulevards of bluesy ballads crowded in expectant romance, pulling emotional heartstrings with a rockman's candor and a soulman's to-love-we-bow obsequiousness. The, dare I say, softest band in Raleigh's Demonbeach pantheon, these Chapel Hill boys will woo you... -Grayson Currin / Independent Weekly, Get Out
